Mission and Philosophy

Mission

The AHMC Health Foundation, a non-profit organization formed in 2009, exists to improve the quality of life for people in the communities served by AHMC-affiliated hospitals. The Foundation intends to focus on addressing the disparities in health care, particularly those that are the result of cultural and linguistic barriers that impede individuals from accessing care.

Philosophy

The AHMC Health Foundation intends to be an active partner in addressing the specific health care needs of the multiethnic populations we serve. The Foundation recognizes that the needs of communities differ due to a multitude of socioeconomic factors and that no singular approach to addressing unmet health needs is sufficient.

We believe more can be achieved to improve the lives within our communities when organizations collaborate for the greater good of those we serve. The AHMC Health Foundation will leverage the collective strengths and resources of the healthcare professionals who practice within AHMC-affiliated hospitals and create partnerships with local organizations to provide health screenings, medical care, and education in a culturally sensitive manner.

The funds raised by the AHMC Foundation will be used to support projects and programs located within the service area of AHMC-affiliated hospitals, which includes Alhambra Hospital Medical Center, AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center, Garfield Medical Center, Greater El Monte Community Hospital, Monterey Park Hospital, Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center, San Gabriel Valley Medical Center, and Whittier Hospital Medical Center. The Foundation will support programs and projects aimed at mitigating health issues prevalent in the hospitals’ service areas. It is anticipated that the types of initiatives supported by the Foundation will range from basic health screenings to the development of community clinics throughout the AHMC-affiliated hospitals’ service area.

Projects and programs to be supported by the Foundation will be selected based on their potential to make a demonstrable impact on the health status of the target community. Recognizing that the determination of unmet health needs within a specific community is best made by local experts, including physicians and hospital staff, the AHMC Health Foundation will seek input from individuals within the AHMC-affiliated hospital system, as well as community leaders in identifying worthwhile initiatives.
